A JAW-dropping whip and fire display, lawn mower racing, a parade of historical motorbikes and a ute show and shine are just a few of the excitements on offer at the Marburg Show on Saturday, May 11.

“We can promise showgoers lots of activity, entertainment, show rides, displays of livestock, produce and craft and of course, fireworks from the time the gates open at 9.00am till when they close, 12 hours later,” says Show Society President, Barb Frohloff.

“And we want to encourage families to pre-purchase their tickets to make a family-affordable event even more affordable. Plus every student or child ticket purchased will go in the draw to win one of two bikes.”

Barb takes a deep breath as she tries to remember every facet of the huge line up of activities.

“A lot will be on display from the moment you walk through the gate at 9.00am - the art, the craft, the cookery, the photography, the Lego, the livestock, the farm produce, the horse events and in a lot of cases you'll be able to watch the judging and see who gets to take home the champion ribbons or the prize cards.

“The Marburg Show is a chance to put our district on display and you'll be amazed with the variety.”

The Show will also feature market stalls, rides ranging from the whirling Tea Cups to the Avalanche, games such as the laughing clowns through to the flipping chicken and food and drink to tempt all tastes.

The Grand Opening and the Grand Parade are saved for the afternoon and signal that there’s lots to watch in the Centre Ring.

“A display of Andalusians, the Light Horse Re-enactment Troop are in the category of quietly exciting while the racing lawnmowers are roaring good fun to watch,” says Barb.

“And we’re expecting some top entries in the ute show and shine, while the Ulysses Motorbikes and the Hot Rods will be worth a ‘stop and admire’.”

Setting a different pace will be the Mr Happy Cabaret.

“Then there’s Walter Whip and the Flames which is performance team that features acts such as the burning ring of fire and cracking two whips on fire and other unique stunts.

“They’ll cut roses from the girl’s hands and mouths with a whip that’s on fire.”

Walter Whip aka Walter LeSouef has practised the art of whip cracking since he was 10-years-old and will be running a free whip cracking workshop as well at the Show.

Other free attractions include face painting, the land train, a wildlife show, llamas, dairy goat milking and tuneful notes of the Amberley Pipe Band.

“Look skyward at 7.00pm,” says Barb, “because that’s when the fireworks will start - lots of sound and colour are promised as we have a great display planned this year.”

To help make the day stress free, there's lots of parking available in Black Snake Creek Reserve although its availability is subject to the weather.
