THE imposing timber footbridge and the old station master’s building at East Ipswich Station have been demolished as the new platform progresses.
The only building deemed of heritage value to Queensland Rail in the $35 million station upgrade project was the timber platform shelter which was re-assembled near the new platform late last month.
Queensland Rail’s Head of South East Queensland Scott Riedel said a heritage assessment was carried out prior to works commencing, which determined that neither the timber station master’s office, built in 1956, nor the timber footbridge, built in the 1960s, were on the State Heritage Register or the Queensland Rail Heritage Register.
