NAIDOC week celebrations at the Marburg Pacing race day last Sunday attracted a good crowd.
The big day at the races was began with a Welcome to Country and a special smoking ceremony performed by Anthony Kemp who was accompanied by Jahmarley Dawson on the digeridoo.
The Deadly Dancers from Leichhardt State School performed a combination of dancing and storytelling to demonstrate an appreciation for the Indigenous culture.
Children were kept busy among the NAIDOC week entertainmens with a free rock-climbing wall, face painting and a colourful jumping castle, while parents enjoyed bets by the bar and cheering their race favourites across the finish line.
To assist racegoers with their race bets, expert tips were shared from a mystery Marburg man, Marburg Pacing Association Secretary Denis Smith and Anthony Collins.
Major prizes in the nine-race line up included an embellished horse rug, which was presented to the winner in each race by Marburg Pacing Association President Scott Neaves.
Scott said the day was made possible by the volunteers and also the sponsors, who included major sponsor Goldbet.
“Thank you to all of the families who came out to Marburg to support our race day,” he said.
“NAIDOC week is always a special day on our calendar and I hope everyone enjoyed the celebrations.”
