1 min read

THIEVES on a crime spree put Marburg residents on edge in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police were called to an antique shop on Edmond Street just before 2am after reports of a break and enter.

It will be alleged the same thieves tried to break into a second antique shop on the same street around the same time.

“Shortly afterwards, Marburg Post Office was broken into and the offenders attempted to set the building alight,” a police spokesperson said.

“It’s believed the same offenders were responsible.

A spokesperson from Marburg Post Office was unable to be reached Tuesday afternoon, a phone voice message said the business was ‘closed due to unforeseen circumstances’.

Parcel collection facilities were made available from the Green Shed at the Marburg Community Centre.

Post Office boxes were accessible.

Police said the offenders were believed to be travelling in a small, dark coloured hatchback and last seen heading west on Edmond Street towards the Warrego Highway.

They urge anyone with information or relevant footage in the area between 12am and 3am to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
