Helen Hauser: nominee for the 2022 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year

DESCRIBED by the volunteers of the Rosewood Uniting Church Goodwill Opportunity Shop as a ‘God send’, Helen Hauser has been nominated for the Rosewood Lions 2022 Citizen of the Year Award.

During the Covid-19 pandemic last year, the Opportunity Shop was forced to close in March and re-opened in June. Any volunteers over the age of 70 were not able to enter the building.

It was during this time that Helen stepped up and worked every day to keep the doors open and to welcome customers.

Helen is described by her fellow volunteers as an extremely hard worker and someone who puts the needs of others before her own.

Customers have stated that they leave the shop in better spirits than when they entered because of Helen’s care and attention.

Helen is an example of how members of the community with time on their hands can use that time to help others and by doing so enrich their own life.

Through Helen’s work it shows that she loves spending her time at the shop to enrich the lives of others as it has added another dimension to her life and she highly values the friendships she has made.
