COLOUR your world with beautiful flowers, outdoor accessories and arts and crafts at this year’s Marburg Garden and Outdoor Expo.

Marburg Show Society vice president Barb Frohloff said this was the expo’s third year and was shaping up to be the best so far.

When asked about her favourite flower, she said, ‘good question but there are so many, it could be roses, petunias, bougainvillea or daisies … as long as they’re colourful, they’re my favourite’.

“The message we want to get across is get outdoors, get your hat on and get gardening,” she said.

“There will be many plant stalls and everything to do with gardening on display at the showgrounds.

“We’ll also have outdoor furniture, décor, barbecues and cooking appliances.

“Garden décor like windmills, statues or something to pretty up your fence.”

Barb said committee members worked hard to ensure there was something for everyone.

Each year market stalls fill the showgrounds, each one offering a possibility for the perfect fit whether owning or renting your property.

“Those who don’t own their property, can still add the personal touch to their surroundings,” she said.

“Garden art and pot plants are loved by renters as they can move them on easily if they leave the property.

“Other easily removed items include different garden props that you can put up against the fence or on a wall.

“There will also be all sorts of indoor plants like orchids.”

The different sections at the expo include indoor plants, fruit trees and shrubs and air plants.

“The first year we had the expo over 4,000 people attended,” Barb said.

“Last year it went up to over 6,500 and we’re expecting even more this year.

“And that’s for a one day event from 8am to 3pm.”

She credits Covid for the increase in interest in gardening and outdoor decorations.

“During Covid people were at home more and made special living spaces, it also pushed people into bigger spaces outdoors,” she said.

“People come to the expo to find new ways of making their home space personal to them.

“It’s a way of having a private place accessible to you and your favourite people.”

Make a day of it because breakfast and lunch are taken care of thanks to a number of food vans and stalls.

“We have lots of trucks coming, so anything from baked potatoes to hamburgers, sandwiches, scones, jam and cream is on offer,” she said.

“The bar will be open for cold drinks, tea, barista coffee and the Lowood Scouts are running a sausage sizzle.”

The expo also has guest speakers ready to talk people through some of the trickier tasks and guide them through different gardening processes.

“I won’t have time for talking with people on the day because I will be flipping burgers,” Barb laughed.

“The most popular plants tend to be the roses and frangipanis, orchids and succulents.

“We’ll have all the hard to find plants available.”

The Marburg Garden and Outdoor Expo is on Saturday, October 12 at the Marburg Showgrounds.

Parking is free and dogs are welcome so long as they’re picked up after and on a leash.
