Memorial Golf Day in memory of an avid golfer
1 min read

MALCOLM Brown had been planning an overland trip to Cape York, for years.

The trip represented his first foray into an around-Australia adventure.

Malcolm and his wife, Michelle, and their friends, Peter and Leeanne, set off from Ebenezer on Monday, July 29, this year.

They reached Injune on their first night and it was there that Malcolm died in a tragic accident.

He was 59-years-old.

An avid golfer and a valued member of the community, a Memorial Golf Day has been organised in his honour at the Rosewood Golf Club on Sunday (July 28).

“His close friends, Terry Bayles and Peter Gibbson and many other friends and family members have done an amazing job organising the Malcolm Brown Memorial Golf Day,” said his daughter, Sharna Sharpe.

A full field of 128 players have put their names down to play on the day.

“The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Queensland sector,” Sharna said.

“We chose the Royal Flying Doctor Service as the Service played a significant role in supporting mum and our family following dad’s accident.

“The doctor and nurse from the Charleville base kept the family updated on dad’s condition and assisted in flying him and mum back to Brisbane from Roma, as all the family members were in Rosewood.”

Funds have already been raised through the sale of T-shirts and stubby coolers emblazoned with a special design by Indigenous artist and Malcolm’s uncle, Malcolm Brown sen.

“All the T-shirts and stubby coolers have been sold but we will be taking orders at the Golf Day for more if people want them,” Sharna said.

While there is a full field of golfers, visitors are welcome to call into the Club to purchase raffle tickets or enjoy the sausage sizzle and other food on offer.

“We thought the Rosewood Golf Club would be a good place to remember our dad as he played golf there for years with my younger brother, Tyson.”
