More than three decades of service to Willowbank

THE Willowbank Area Residents Group has recognised the significant service given to the community by former President, George Hatchman.

“For 35 years, George has advocated for the Amberley, Ebenezer, Jeeboropilly, Mutdapilly, Mount Forbes, Purga and Willowbank areas, in regard to issues affecting the community through the Willowbank group,” Group President, Chad Hayes said.

In recognition of George’s contribution, he was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

“As President of the Willowbank Area Residents Group I thought it was very fitting to say thank you to George for his hard work and volunteer service on behalf of the group’s committee and the community,” he said.

“The Willowbank Area Residents Group was established as an Incorporated community organisation in June 2023.

“However, the group origins go back to 1989 when George organised an initial successful Willowbank community delegation against the establishment of a toxic waste dump in the Willowbank - Mutdapilly area.

“George later formalised the delegates as the Willowbank Residents Group in 1996 and the group was later renamed the Willowbank Area Residents Group.”

George formally stood down as President in 2020, with the aim of spending more time with his family.

“Throughout the many years I have been supported by David Pahlke, Ian Dainer and other committed members of the group,” George said.

“It is now time for the younger generations to take charge of their community to evolve our environmental and social amenity to meet their future expectations, while my intention is always to be a mentor in the background.”
