THE hugely popular Native Plant sale returns to Rosewood on Saturday, October 28.

Hosted by the Ipswich branch of Native Plants Queensland in the Rosewood showgrounds and promoted as the Native Plant Sale and Environment Day, the event is a ‘must attend’ for plant lovers.

Making the event extra special is the fact that it will be the 10 year anniversary of the branch opening the plant sale up to the community.

To mark the occasion there will be an official opening at 10.30am.

Sale co-ordinator, Heather Knowles, said all the growers who will be selling plants are members of Native Plants Queensland, therefore there will be knowledge and advice shared between the plant specialist and the buyer.

“We do recommend to bring your own box or bag to take home many plant species that start from as little as three dollars,” she said.

“Plant species include bushfood, flowering plants, rare and threatened species, fauna, food plants and many more.

“Surrounding the large variety of plants will be information stands from Bat Rescue, Birds Queensland, the Bush Food Association, the Botanical Artists Society of Queensland, West Moreton Landcare, the Bremer Catchment Association and the Native Plants Queensland Branch.

“Ipswich City Council will also have a stall specialising in Conservation Partnerships and Waste Management.”

There will be fun activities to keep children busy and engaged throughout the sale.

Heather said these would include colouring in stations, the Spinners and Dyers group who will demonstrate how to make nature inspired clothing and a display of the beauty of koalas from the Ipswich Koala Protection Society.

“With something for everyone, this sale provides the perfect opportunity for green thumbs and also families who are starting something new in their garden, to interact and ask questions with expert teams, environment groups and plant specialists,” she said.

“Excitement is also building for our monster raffle, where from as little as one dollar you could be the lucky winner of one of our amazing prizes.

“This raffle will be drawn at 1pm on the day, our major prizes consist of gardening supplies and materials, and also a hamper donated by Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden.”

Entry to the event is free, an Eftpos machine will be located on the grounds, food and drinks will be served by members of the Rosewood Community Centre and a coffee van will be open for hot and cold drinks.
