Rewarding career opens up for Dylan

DYLAN Carpenter, 25, was one of 38 medical interns who started his career at West Moreton Health in January.

He has now embarked on his latest round in mental health after stints in surgery, palliative care and general medicine.

“I’ve found the experience daunting but also interesting and rewarding,” the former St Peter Claver College student said.

“It’s a huge change from learning as a student to putting things into practice as a working doctor.

“Two pieces of advice that are important are that there’s always someone to help and it’s okay to back yourself sometimes.

“A lot of us go into our first year anxious that we won’t cope, which I certainly felt.

“But we have trained for years to do this and sometimes if we take a step back, the answer is right there.

‘But I’ve also learned that you’re never truly alone at the hospital.

“I’ve found that when I’ve called for help, I’ve had someone senior who was always helpful.”
