HAIGSLEA, Mount Marrow, Marburg, Ashwell and Glamorgan Vale state school competed in the Rosewood District Small Schools Ball Games Carnival at Marburg State School, last Friday.

Haigslea Principal Andrew Sellick said that the skies looked ominous as things got under way and there was concern that the ball games would be washed out again as they were in Term 3.

“Luckily the sun poked through and the morning got off to a great start with younger students showing the way with tunnel ball, leader ball, captain ball and file gap,” he said.

“As the day went on the older students wrapped up the student’s events, with Haigslea defending their title from last year taking back to back honours.

“After a terrific barbeque lunch and baked treats provided by the Haigslea school, it was time for the adult teams to assemble and take the field.

“It was a strong performance by the Marburg adult team who took the trophy for the first time since 1981, no small feat and one that was celebrated with gusto and enthusiasm by them.”

Mr Sellick described the annual event as “a great day”.

“It brought together the small schools in our district to compete against each other in a fun filled day where fun and friendship are always out in front and we thank Marburg for hosting the event.”
