Vyleen teen to stand trial

THE teenager charged with the murder of grandmother Vyleen White has been committed to stand trial.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced the Ipswich Children’s Court on Friday for a committal hearing.

The boy was also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle for allegedly stealing Ms White’s car, and three counts of stealing.

Police arrested the boy and numerous teenagers after 70-year-old Ms White was allegedly stabbed to death at a Redbank Plains shopping centre on February 3 last year.

Her car was allegedly taken and abandoned.

It has been alleged that the boy stole drinks and chocolate from a store, food from a fast-food chain and alcohol in one day.

All charges were also committed to the Supreme Court in Brisbane for a mention later on.

The boy, who appeared in court via video link, was also charged with common assault relating to the events of a separate incident which will be heard this May.

Adult Crime, Adult Time legislation does not apply to this case as it occurred before the legislation came into effect.
