Mia Curtis is the new Principal at St Brigid’s Primary School.
A TEACHER with extensive experience in small community schools has been appointed as the Principal of St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School.
Mia Curtis said she was excited to begin her work at St Brigid’s as the new Principal as she believes that the school chooses its leader.
“It is a real privilege to be selected.”
And she said her focus would be on building strong relationships while providing opportunities for the students to succeed and grow.
“I bring with me many years of experience in small school communities.
“My recent employment was at Immaculate Heart Catholic Primary School for 11 years and prior to that I was working in the Rockhampton Diocese.
“My vision for St Brigid’s is to continue to grow the school’s very strong sense of community while providing our children with lots of opportunities so that they can succeed to be their absolute best in a wide range of learning areas.”
Mia has lived in Ipswich for more than 10 years and family time with her two teenage boys kept her busy outside work through schooling, their hobbies and interests.
“My family is everything so I do understand the importance of building strong relationships with the families within our school,” she said.
“My aim is to get to know each and every one of our students along with their families.
“Spending time within the classrooms to work with the children and students is what I really enjoy, and I also like time before and after class schedules as this gives me an opportunity to get to know each student on a more personal level.
“Just taking the time to talk to each student to see how their day is going is really important and my goal is to build great relationships, I think that this is key.
“Where possible, I will be encouraging community involvement with participating in local Anzac Day ceremonies, events and the Cabanda Aged Care home with the students.”
Rosewood is part of the Ipswich Catholic Community.
“There are plans to work closely with the other schools and we are also inviting all families to visit our school community,” she said.
