ROAD closures are now in place as major drainage work takes place on Adelong Avenue in Thagoona.
Mayor Teresa Harding said that $500,000 had been set aside by Council for the upgrade.
“This funding will provide preliminary works prior to the road upgrades scheduled to commence in the 2024-25 financial year,” she said.
“The road was closed on November 14 and will remain closed until March 2024 to allow for the removal and replacement of the existing stormwater culverts adjacent to the Adelong Avenue Reserve, at the eastern end of the avenue close to Kavanagh Street.
“Full road closure between Kavanagh Street and the western end of the Adelong Avenue Reserve will also take place with local access for residents maintained via either Amaroo Road or Cummins Road, Thagoona.”
Cr Harding said the upgrade would significantly improve the stormwater drainage across the flood-prone section of road.
Work will include the replacement of the existing stormwater drainage culverts, service relocations, demolition work, the construction of new culverts and restoration of the disturbed areas.
Deputy Mayor Russell Milligan said that it was … “great to see this important project for Thagoona progressing”.
“We understand it can be frustrating to encounter roadworks, but for Thagoona residents this is a project that will help maintain Adelong Avenue whilst reducing the impact of flooding along the road,” he said.
