Ipswich Paralympian takes out silver, calls for greater equality in her sport

Ipswich Paralympian Susan Seipel has added to her Rio bronze, taking out a silver medal in her para-canoe final. 

Susan won her heat on Thursday, earning her spot in the Va’a WVL2 200 final where she finished in a time of 1:01.481. 

It’s the first time the Paralympics have included Va’a (word for canoe in Polynesian languages) events in the games and the inclusion doubled Susan’s chance of getting on the podium. 

Susan said winning the silver in the Va’a debut made the achievement even more special. 

“The competition is so hot in the V2, so I’m so happy to get the medal,” she said.
