IT WAS a day that exceeded all expectations as crowds topping 6,000 poured into the Workshops Rail Museum as part of the huge Planes, Trains and Autos festival of events on Saturday.
Now in its third year, Planes, Trains and Autos fans enjoyed flyovers from the RAAF Super Hornet Growler and Spartan as well as a host of magnificent aviators in their flying machines.
Reigning Red Bull Air Race champion and former RAAF top gun pilot Matt Hall put on a demonstration of breathtaking aerobatics while Red Thunder warbird formation flypasts had crowds open-mouthed at their dazzling air show.
There were also static exhibits from Classic and Muscle Cars Ipswich, Queensland Super Karts Club, TAE Aerospace and units from RAAF Base Amberley.
Park and Pose at Nicholas Street Precinct on Saturday evening also experienced huge numbers flocking to the city to enjoy the gleaming classics.
“It was a great night,” Classic and Muscle Cars Ipswich member Brett Jones said.
“At one point, the mall was full, shoulder to shoulder.”
Meanwhile, there were unprecedented scenes as classic car enthusiasts drove from far and wide to show off their pride and joy for city laps as revellers, unrestricted by the covid curbs of previous years, packed out restaurants and bars to enjoy the weekend spectacular.
