Rosewood carnival caps top Crusaders soccer season
2 min read

ROSEWOOD United Soccer Club president Tammy Crawford has an added reason to be excited about this weekend’s Country Challenge Cup carnival at Thagoona.

Apart from her growing club hosting a “fantastic’’ end-of-season event on Saturday, Tammy is elated three of her club sides made Queensland Christian Soccer Association (QSCA) finals in recent weeks.

Tammy played in the Senior Women’s team which won the Division 4 premiership before going down 2-0 to Riverlife in the preliminary final.

The Rosewood United Crusaders under-11 side also reached the Division 5 preliminary final before losing 2-0 to Brisbane Valley.

The under-11 team finished the regular season in second spot with 10 wins and five losses.

The Crusaders 15/16 boys side (pictured) were beaten 3-2 by Dinmore in last month’s Division 3 elimination final after entering the playoff series in third.

The club president was proud to be part of the Senior Women’s side that learnt so much guided by former QAS coach Kim Bennett.

“It was fantastic,” Tammy said.

“Yes it hurt that we didn’t make it to the grand final but to come out as season premiers at the end of fixtures is a huge, huge achievement. Not many get to do that.

“It was so hot on the weekend . . . it was just cruel [in the preliminary final] – 37 degrees.

 “It was hard yakka.”

Rosewood’s Senior Women will advance to next year’s QSCA Division 3 competition having finished the regular season to top with 12 wins, three draws and only two losses.

The women’s side lost 3-2 to the Dinmore Bushrats Cougars in the first weekend of finals before Riverlife ended their grand final bid a week later.

Tammy said the club’s under-11 side was a mix of under-10 players from the year before and a group of soccer newcomers.

“They just did great,” she said.

Tammy is hopeful the under 15/16 boys continue to build another successful side in the future.

“The growth this year, especially the female players has been amazing,” she said.

“These kids are all sharing it with their mates already – come next year.’’

A number of Rosewood club players will represent the West Zone in Saturday’s Country Challenge Cup carnival kicking off at 8am.

Rosewood club officials are again hosting the one-day carnival having fields at Caledonian Park in good condition despite the recent rain and hot conditions.

Tammy expects teams from Sunshine Coast North, South and Central zones to play against the West Zone sides in matches for under 10 to under 13 players.
