COMEDIAN, musician and composer, Tim Minchin is heading to South East Queensland in 2022 to film Season two of ‘Upright’.
‘Upright’ is a popular drama series produced by Lingo Pictures which premiered on Foxtel and Sky UK in 2019.
The first season was filmed in South Australia and Western Australia.
The series tells the story of an adrift musician named, Lucky, played by Tim Minchin and a teenage rebel called Meg, played by Milly Alcock.
The two travel across the Nullarbor to Perth to deliver an upright piano.
The series was nominated for Best International Drama at the Edinburgh TV Awards and won Best Comedy Series at the AACTA Awards.
In season two, both Lucky and Meg hit the road together on another mission and trade the desert for tropical Far North Queensland, which they will film in South East Queensland.
Post-production will be completed at Brisbane studio, Cutting Edge.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the filming and post production is expected to create 490 jobs for local crew and on-screen talent.
“This is another feather in the cap of Queensland’s booming screen industry and a welcome addition to the long list of productions,” she said.
“Building a sustainable industry for Queensland, means thousands of jobs for local screen practitioners and millions of dollars for our state economy.”
Screen Queensland Chief Creative Officer Jo Dillon said the production will put South East Queensland on the world map.
“Upright is quirky, clever Australian comedy at its best, with a Queensland producer Meg O’Connell (Robbie Hood, Retrograde) alongside Lingo Pictures’ Jason Stephens (Lambs of God) and featuring Tim Minchin, who is one of the country’s most celebrated, multi-talented artists both on and off-screen,” Ms Dillon said.
