Ipswich school sports hub community boost

FEDERAL Member for Blair Shayne Neumann has confirmed that Ipswich State High School will receive $2 million in Federal funding for a new community sports hub.

The school currently offers five high performance Academies providing elite training and coaching programs in rugby league, netball, soccer, volleyball and dance.

The sports hub will provide improved facilities for these sports and offer new opportunities in sports like futsal and basketball.

As a community sports hub, it also will be available to local sporting clubs and organisations outside of the school.

“This is terrific news for Ipswich State High School, especially for their students, but

for the wider Ipswich community as well,” Neumann said.

Neumann said Ipswich State High School has a strong track record of sporting programs that develop skills while engaging students in their education.

“As we saw with the school's champion rugby league team this year, Ipswich High has a well-deserved reputation for being an elite sporting hub and nursery,” Neumann said.

“The school’s football program provides development opportunities for girls and boys in rugby league and touch football, and even has partnerships with the NRL.

“This investment will further support that, while providing much-needed sporting infrastructure for the Ipswich region.”

The funding is part of the $270 million School Upgrade Fund, which is being rolled out by the Albanese Labor Government to boost school infrastructure for students.

The funding will be provided to the school in coming weeks.

It builds on funding for other sporting and community infrastructure in Ipswich delivered in the Budget.

This includes $20 million for North Ipswich Stadium (a new North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct), $2 million to expand the Ipswich Basketball Stadium at Booval, $1 million for upgrades at Ironbark Park, Ripley and Ripley Valley Football Club, and $500,000 to upgrade the Ipswich Hockey grounds.

“This is one of the fastest growing regions in the country, so it’s vital that we’re investing in community and social infrastructure to promote healthy lifestyles,” Neumann said.
