Fans get ready: Supercars back at ‘revitalised’ Qld Raceway
1 min read

WHEN Ipswich last hosted a Supercars series in 2019, three world-class drivers were leading the race for championship honours.

Runaway pacesetter Scott McLaughlin, second placed Fabian Coulthard and third-placed Shane van Gisbergen featured in a classic Ford Mustang v Holden Racing Team battle at Queensland Raceway (QR).

The “Paperclip” circuit at Willowbank was venue for the Ipswich SuperSprint round that created a fan frenzy.

Five years later, QR has been reinstated as a Supercars championship round in August next year.

Even without the Ford v Holden duel, motorsport fans will again get to soak up high-powered racing in the Supercars and Dunlop Series at a revamped Raceway site.

The main reason Ipswich lost its place on the 2020 Supercars calendar was facility issues at Willowbank.

QR had been a venue for Supercars rounds from 1999 until 2019.

Supercars organisers have praised Raceway owner Tony Quinn for making the necessary upgrades to lure the elite level sport back to Ipswich.

"We’re incredibly excited to announce the return of the Ipswich event in 2025," Supercars CEO Shane Howard said.

"After a few years off the calendar, we know fans in south-east Queensland have been eager for its return.

"Queensland Raceway has had significant upgrades, and the August event will be one to mark in the calendar to attend at a truly revitalised venue.”
