IGS club swimmers impress at state championships

IPSWICH Grammar Swimming Club (IGS) competitors made waves at the latest Queensland titles at a fiercely competitive event featuring Olympians and world champions.

With an impressive roster of 32 swimmers, the IGS team showcased exceptional skill and determination across the seven-day championships to finish 23rd in the state.

That remarkable performance came in the club’s third year.

Teagan Hanlon, Zacharias Carvolth, Nicholas Bonomo and Boston Wilcox secured coveted spots on the Brisbane Regional Relay team.

Zacharias was a standout performer, clinching gold medals in the 12 and under medley relay and freestyle relay.

Boston secured gold in the 12 and under medley relay and Nicholas claimed bronze in the 15 and under medley relay.

Thirty-one IGS swimmers were also outstanding contesting 135 individual events.

IGS swimmers notched an impressive 63 personal bests, 35 top 20 finishes, 20 finals appearances and a remarkable 11 medals.

The team finished a commendable 23rd in the overall state rankings.

Zacharias was named 12-year-old age champion, after he competed in 12 individual events, qualifying for the final in each. He won medals in 10 events, swimming personal bests in nine of those.

His gold medal-winning performances included the 200 individual medley; 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke; 100m freestyle; and 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.

He won silver in the 50m and 200m freestyle.

Adding to the Ipswich club’s podium finishes, Lachlan Stuart secured a medal in the 14 year 100m backstroke.

He also made finals in the 200m backstroke [8th] and 50m backstroke [6th].

William Tiaone achieved 10th place finishes in the 13 year 100m and 50m breaststroke finals.

Frederick Morony came fifth in the 13 year 200m backstroke and eighth in the 100m backstroke finals.

Charlie Morony finished ninth in the 12 year old 800m freestyle final and came seventh in the 400m final.

Liam Kim recovered from injury to finish 10th in the 12 year 50m backstroke final.

IGS club swimmers Elyza Stuart, Olivia Wilcox, Summer Groves, Isabel Joffe and Teagan Hanlon.

Nicholas Bonomo, Hamish Harty, Arthur Surjaatmadia, Owen Weaver and Olivia Wilcox shared in top 20 finishes across multiple events, highlighting the Ipswich club’s depth of talent.

IGS club swimmers are looking to continue their strong form at the Australian Age championships at the Gold Coast in April.
