“Cheeky” Ipswich pro rider in tragic crash
1 min read

MORETON Districts Motocross (MDMX) members and supporters have joined the chorus of tributes for Ipswich rider Brayden Erbacher, who tragically died doing what he loves.

Brayden, 20, suffered fatal injuries in a crash during last Sunday's round one of the ProMX Championship in Wonthaggi, Victoria.

Ipswich-based MDMX secretary Craig Shearer said Brayden was a regular pro rider who competed around south east Queensland circuits, including Queensland Moto Park in the Scenic Rim.

The promising rider had been a member of the MDMX club, showcasing his skills when events were staged at Tivoli Raceway.

“MDMX and the committee would like to extend our condolences to the Erbacher family. It's very sad news for our sport,” the club said.

Brayden (pictured) was also a member or the Hervey Bay Kilcoy motocross clubs and Suncoast Junior Motorcycling Club.

This season was to be Brayden's second in the MX2 Championship, the pinnacle for 250cc four stroke bikes.

Motorcycling Australia (MA) said although Brayden was a late starter in racing, he came to the latest Victorian event eager to take on Australia's best.

After dealing with some recent illness, he returned to full fitness after excellent off-season work on his push bike, in the pool and gym.

Away from racing, Brayden was regarded as a “likeable, handsome and creative young man” with a cheeky nature.

He enjoyed his fishing, camping and playing the guitar.

The ProMX Championship event was cancelled after the tragic accident.

MA officials said they would continue to co-operate with relevant authorities in the investigation into what happened. They shared the family's latest thoughts.

“The Erbacher family would like to thank everyone at Racesafe including the paramedics, first responders and the riders and families that supported us,” MA said.

“We are beyond proud to call Brayden our son and will be forever grateful for having him in our lives.”

Other motocross enthusiasts posted individual messages of support.

“To the family, keep smiling,” one member said. “Life will be tough for a long time. Brayden would want everyone to live their lives with joy, passion and great adventure.”
