JIM Trevethan was enjoying a cup of tea on his verandah when he noticed a large carpet python curled up in the beams of his house roof.

The Rosewood resident said that it caught him by surprise, but gave him some answers as to why he had noticed less pigeons nesting in his roof than usual.

“For many months now, pigeons have become a major problem at my home.

“They nest in the roof and also within the beams of my verandah.”

He added that the unwelcome visitors were both noisy and messy.

“Funnily enough I purchased a rubber snake to try to deter the pigeons from nesting but it made little difference,” he said.

“It turns out that the real deal did.

“This snake is what I think is a Carpet Python and it is not the first time that I have witnessed one curled up on the outside of my home.

“Its colours are beautiful and to be honest I think every home should have one to keep the pests away.

“It is a welcome guest that I am more than happy to have in my home.”

Jim spotted it early on Friday afternoon, and he kept a close eye on it during the day and into the night, though when he woke on Saturday morning, the snake was gone.

“Where it went, I am not sure, but I am grateful for its visit because it has assisted me in eliminating the number of pigeons that were causing havoc at my home.”
