SHOCK Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan showed he has class as well as a touch of Irish luck by honouring his promise to Ipswich.
Last Tuesday, the Irishman was on top of the world after winning the Melbourne Cup on longshot Knight’s Choice, trained at the Sunshine Coast by Sheila Laxon and John Symonds.
Two days later, after celebrations that included singing with fellow Irishman Ronan Keating at Crown Casino, Dolan was at Ipswich racetrack to fulfill engagements made before the Cup.
He confided that before the Cup he reckoned he’d pull out of riding at the Ipswich races on Thursday if he won the big one, but then decided it was the right thing to stick.
He delighted everyone by not only bringing along his Melbourne Cup trophy to Ipswich racetrack but also happily posing with it and racegoers for endless photos.
Dolan, who also made his name as a popular contestant on The Voice, had to wait until the last race to record a win, barn-storming home on the fittingly named Victory Command.
