Division 4 by-election goes to Martin

DIVISION 4 by-election winner David Martin says he is “overwhelmed” at the support he has received.

“The people had their choice to vote; had they thought Russell [Milligan] was a better candidate they would have voted for him,” Mr Martin said.

“I believe in the democratic process, and the people have spoken.”

Mr Martin said his strengths were in working with the public.

“I have been on the Ipswich Community Youth Service Board for over 25 years, Ipswich Regional Advocacy Service for the best part of 30 years … I have done a whole host of things in the community,” he said.

“I love the community, love engaging with people, and want to be a voice for the local community.”

He said his wife, Jacqui, was the bedrock of his success.

“I wouldn’t be here without her; she’s behind everything I do,” he said.

“She is front and centre by my side, she’s amazing. She’s also long been involved in the community.

“We are a great fit for the community.

“Even if I wasn’t elected, I’d still do what I do. Jacqui is the same.”

Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said he looked forward to working with Mr Martin.

“I’ve known David for 30 years, and I have never known him to be anything but passionate for the people of Ipswich,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“I’ve had the great pleasure of working with him on many of those community groups, so I am looking forward to him being on Council, as I did when he joined Council back in 2018.”
