THE Rebels Boxing Club hosted the Ipswich Regional Boxing Championships, last week, in an action-packed night of 31 fights at the Ipswich Showgrounds Events Centre.
Queensland National, Golden Gloves Champions and elite boxers travelled from as far as Victoria and Sydney to be part of the action.
Among the competitors were three boxers from the Rebels Boxing Club - Max Cuthel, Azaias Oui-Nona and Lachlan Ward.
Club owner, coach and manager Robbie Sbeghen reported that Max Cuthel competed in the 32-kilogram division and with a combination of his fast-paced technique and his very sharp technical skills he won his division and took out the Fight of the Night trophy.
“Max is very skilled and, on the night, he displayed an impressive show. Overall, he won the fight of the night which is an amazing achievement, he was ecstatic and I am very proud,” Robbie said.
“Lachlan Ward competed in the 69-kilogram division and throughout the match he displayed lots of movement and technical boxing skills, he lost on points but really impressed myself and the crowd.
“Azaias Oui-Nona has an extremely hard punch. He is fast paced and very skilled.
“He competed in the 69-kilogram division, and although he lost on points, he too put on a really amazing show.”
More than 450 spectators were recorded to have walked through the doors to witness the array of technique and skills that were demonstrated in the ring.
Robbie said the crowd was very vocal and really got behind the boxers and each match in the ring.
“It was an electric night, that was accompanied with great food.
“Everyone said they had a really great time which was great to hear.
“I am especially grateful to all of our sponsors, including the major sponsor Shamrock Civil Engineering for contributing to making this event a success.
“My role is always to support and encourage all of my team, who I am really proud of, they all performed at a top level and now we are preparing for the next tournament which will be held in Brisbane on July 1.”
