Brian Bennion has been appointed editor at the Ipswich Tribune.
In the almost two years Brian has been with the newspaper, he has shown not only a dedication to news but to the city which he covers.
Using his almost thirty years of experience covering Ipswich, Brian immediately took his round of local government reporting to the next level, giving Ipswich independent coverage of the council not seen in years.
Brian has created real impact in the city from his reporting, most recently his coverage of the council’s media policy changes, which has forced the state government to step in.
Right from the start, he quickly expanded his role to covering all things Ipswich, from big acts coming to town to local Indigenous issues such as the controversial Deebing Creek development.
Brian has never shied away from a tough story and this drive won him a Clarion Award for his reporting on Deebing Creek in 2016 and made him a finalist a year before for his social issues reporting.
His reporting has also helped lead this newspaper to being named the number one paid independent newspaper in the state last year by the QCPA.
Prior to his time with the Ipswich Tribune, Brian was a news editor at News Corp, a sub-editor at The Courier Mail and chief reporter at the Queensland Times.
